![]() ![]() ![]() If you see a message saying the disk has a fatal hardware error, the disk has an irreparable hardware problem that can’t be fixed by Disk Utility or any other utility that repairs software problems. If you used Disk Utility from macOS Recovery, you can now restart your Mac: choose Apple menu > Restart. On your Mac, open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder in Applications. The order of repair in this example was Macintosh HD - Data, then Macintosh HD, then Container disk4, then APPLE SSD. For example, we tested the 2017 2.3GHz iMac with a standard hard drive and the 3.4GHz iMac with a Fusion Drive and we found huge differences in file copy times.
